Introduction
This is waaaay better than that glowing yellow stuff that comes out of the can. You can also adjust the seasonings to suit your tastes. Just use this as a loose guide. If you don't have fresh herbs, use dried herbs. It's all good.
Ingredients
4 tbsp butter
1 cup flour
3 cups chicken stock
1.5 cups milk
2 tsp salt
3 tsp fresh ground pepper
2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp fresh chopped thyme
1 tsp fresh chopped oregano
Preparation
Melt the butter in a large pot on medium high heat. Add the flour and whisk for a couple of minutes until the mixture browns, but doesn’t burn (you’re looking for light brown, so it should take 2-3 minutes). Slowly add the stock and whisk until smooth, no lumps, please. Whisk in the milk and all of the seasonings. Constantly stir until the mixture simmers and thickens.
Now you have condensed soup. Use it in casseroles and other recipes, or actually make a soup with it. Just be sure to add water, broth, or stock since this is a concentrated soup. It’s practically gravy, so it would probably go good with biscuits too, though we haven’t tried that as of this writing.
